## Abstract The author pointed out that hydrolysis of acetonitrile, trace impurity of someorganic solvents, and insolubility of benzene can make great effects on BโZ or BโR oscillators in aqueousโorganic mixed media. And surfactant is better than organic solvent in the design of chemical oscillator

โฆ Synopsis
The comments of Zhanbo He are outlined and discussed in this communication as follows: (i) It is pointed out in paragraph 4 that the distilled solvents (1,4dioxan, DMF, and THF) failed to bring about color change in the tube experiment. However the results obtained in mixed media employing distilled l,kdioxan, dimethyl formamide, tetrahydrofuran, and acetonitrile are contrary to the statement. The oscillatory characteristics obtained by employing p-Vanillin and syringic acid are presented in Table I andI1 as well as in Figures 1 to 4. The oscillatory behavior is found to be more satisfactory with the distilled solvent; (ii) It is pointed out in paragraph 2 that the hydrolysis reaction of actonitrile plays a key role in bringing about the oscillatory behavior. The effect of addition of aceticacid and/or acetamide are presented in Table 111. The presence of aceticacid (4% by volume) partially retards oscillations while (0.4% by weight) completely inhibits the oscillatory behavior; (iii) It is pointed out in paragraph 4 that some organic solvents can also be used as substrates. The solvent can be so chosen that it does not act as a B-Z substrate; (iv) It is argued in paragraph 3 that benzene and water are immiscible and form two layers. The oscillatory behavior of water insoluble substances as substrate has been established to be more satifactory with 20% benzene than in pure aqueous medium. Efficient stirring with a magnetic pellet ensures homogeneity of the reaction mixture and this procedure is well suited for the study of water insoluble substrates in oscillatory systems, and (v) Surfactants which induce some oxidation reactions have been employed to design oscillators. However this technique could rank along with the use of aqueous-organic mixed media in extending the scope of investigation in chemical oscillator by bringing into the fold several water insoluble substrates.
