✦ Synopsis

This first paper about spatial configurations (or 2-configurations) in modern times gives a short report about the early constructions of the last century, contains constructions of all symmetric spatial configurations with k < 6. Especially, a configuration (1 7,)2 is discussed in detail. Relations to other combinatorial structures like Golomb rulers, regular graph designs and semibiplanes are discussed.
