On the basis of this model, one qualitative observation can be made. If there is a large binding energy between solute atoms and vacancies, the region immediately surrounding the zone since it becomes rapidly depleted in solute atoms will have a low vacancy concentration. Thus, although a large binding energy will enhance the solute diffusively far from the zone, the effect will be much less pronounced near the zone. In other words, the concentration profile should become steeper for a high binding energy.
