The dispersion equation for hydromagnetic surface waves along a plasma-plasma interface has been solved as a function of the compressibility factor c 1/vA1, where c 1 and vnl are the acoustic and Alfv6n wave speed in one of the medium, for general wave propagation direction. Both slow and fast magne

โฆ Synopsis
By applying compatibility conditions of Thomas
for surfaces of discontinuity in continuum mechanics, tile singular surfaces of first and second order which may occur in the theory of hydromagnetics are discussed. It is shown that first order singular surfaces are of two types; Alfvgn waves and contact type of discontinuities. The singular surfaces of second order turn out to be similar to singular surfaces of first order. An expression is obtained for the variation of the 'strength' of the Alfv@n wave as it propagates in a fluid at rest under constant pressure and magnetic field. It is shown that under certain conditions the strength of the Alfv~n wave as it propagates does not vary.

The paper deals with singular surfaces in thermoelastic materials. A new kinetic relation is obtained for surfaces with discontinuous temperature, which is generalizing the relation for the continuous case. It is shown that the deduced driving force naturally corresponds to the thermoelastic pseudom
