✦ Synopsis
A BSTRA CT
Reliability of a structure with random strength is investigated assuming that the occurrences of random stresses are governed by a non-homogeneous Poisson process. Here calculations are carried out based on the observation that the failure corresponds to the occurrence of the first record stress (new high in the sequence of stresses) relative to the random strength of the component. Explicit formulae for two practically important cases are derived and two examples using real data for wind and earthquake are included.
