✦ Synopsis

The four acids NaH,PO,, Na2HPO,, NaPO3 and Na4P,.O7 were titrated potentiometricall), with NazO, in molten KNOs at 350°C. An oxygen electrode acted as indicator electrode, while a Ag/Ag(1) electode served as a suitable reference electrode. NaH2PO, neutralized in two steps, the second of which was identical with that for the neutralization of Na~HPO4. The system POs-+ O z-~ PO, 8-does not represent an acid-base equilibrium as is generally claimed. During titration NaPO, changed to Na,P~O7 and then to Na3PO,. The acids were determined with an average percentage error of 4-2 per cent. Mixtures of NaH2PO4 + Na~HPO, and NaPO8 + Na,P,O7 were similarly titrated with reasonable accuracy. The titration results are discussed theoretically and relative equilibrium constants are calculated. Comparison is made between the results obtained in fused and aqueous media.

R6sum6--Titrage potentiom6trique par NasO2, en KNO3 fondu ~. 350°C, des 4 acides NaH,FO4; Na,HPO,; NaPO3; Na,PsOv L'61ectrode indicatrice est une 61ectrode/t oxyg6ne; l'~lectrode de r~ference est Ag/Ag (I). NaHsPO4 se neutralise en deux 6tapes, la seconde 6tant identique /t la neutralisation de Na2HPO4. Contrairement b. ce qui est souvent dit, le syst6me PO3-+ 02-~-PO43 n'est pas assimilable/t un 6quilibre acido-basique. Pendant le titrage, NaPO3 devient Na4P~PT, puis Na,PO,. L'erreur moyenne des d6terminations analytiques est 5:2 pour cent. Une pr6cision analogue est accessible pour les m61anges NaHsPO4 + Na2HPO, et NaPO3 + Na4P3OT. Apr~s discussion th6orique, on caleule des constantes d'equilibre relatives.
