The development of magnetic field structures which can lead to prominence configurations of the Kuperus-Raadu type is discussed. Starting from streamer type configurations and preserving the total current in the system we find that simple two-dimensional static configurations lead to prominences whi

โฆ Synopsis
A study of the metallic lines in bright quiescent prominences indicates that the optical thickness in the K line of Ca II may reach values as high as 103. This is about 10 times larger than the optical thickness in the Hc~ line and may explain some peculiarities of the H and K lines in solar prominences.

We discuss the evolution of pulses of heat both along and perpendicular to magnetic fields threading quiescent prominences. We show that while heating of prominence material can take place on a time scale of the order 10 3 S (of the same order as the observed 'winking' of Ha light from prominences a
The paper deals with the excitation of the he[ium singlet level 2~P in the homogeneous and filamentary models of quiescent prominences with following parameters: the optical thickness at the limit of helium Lyman continuum ~,. = 0.1-100, T~ = 7000 K, n,. = 5 x 10~~ cm -3. Assuming a model He I atom
