✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A nonlinear model of the power amplifier in a multi‐carrier transmission system is discussed. It is emphasized that when the amplifier is driven by a signal with a large dynamic range, the third‐order model of its nonlinearity may be invalid. Taking into account high order components of the nonlinear model is especially important if the power amplifier produces phase distortions. A technique for an accurate prediction of the output spectrum of a nonlinear power amplifier in a multi‐carrier transmission system is presented. It is based on the fifth‐order Taylor series expansion of the complex gain of the power amplifier. The obtained formulas are simple and convenient to use. They can be employed as a basis for both design and analysis of microwave amplifiers. Copyright © 2004 AEI
