β¦ Synopsis
For use in the investigations of magnesium monoxide lines in sunspot spectra, values of Franck-Condon intensity factors for the red bands and the wavelength regions for the intense bands of the red and near-ultraviolet transitions of MgO are presented. The results indicate that a search for the lines of the red and near-ultraviolet bands in the sunspot spectra could resolve the questionable presence of MgO in sunspots.

intensity factors for bands of the C-A transition of the A1F molecule are calculated. A reinvestigation for the lines of (0, 0) band of the C-A system in sunspot spectra is suggested, so as to resolve the question~tble existence of A1F absorption lines in sunspots.
Indirect evidence against the presence of C2 lines in umbral spectra is discussed. The dominant role of CO in the molecular equilibrium of C at umbral temperatures ensures that CN, CH and Cz lines are formed in the same atmospheric regions. Observations of CN and CH umbral lines are in good accord w
