✦ Synopsis

This paper discusses the application of a genetic algorithm as an off-line optimization tool in an on-line production control problem. The on-line control problem is replaced by a sequence of the corresponding off-line problems and solved using a genetic algorithm. The effectiveness of the method is compared with that of a traditional optimization technique (Gradient Projection Method) using simulation experiments. The results indicate the usefulness of this approach.
