β¦ Synopsis
Advanced on-line corrosion monitoring techniques were used to characterize the corrosion damage sustained by mild steel in cooling emulsions. While the general corrosion rates of mild steel were extremely low at under 2 milli-inches per year thickness loss, the electrochemical measurements indicated a distinct risk of localised pitting corrosion. Judging from the electrochemical potential noise signals, biocide additions made to the emulsions exacerbated the pitting attack.

In this study, a modified electrochemical noise (EN) technique was used to monitor uniform corrosion and pitting corrosion. In the EN technique, one working electrode is coupled to a microelectrode (e.g. Pt) through a zero resistance ammeter to sense current noise. Results show that the EN technique
An adaptive calorimetric method, coupled with state estimators for emulsion copolymerization, is shown to provide accurate, on-line information on the evolution of the composition and kinetics of an emulsion copolymerization. This method was evaluated for the emulsion copolymerization of methyl meth
