✦ Synopsis

The splitting of a continuous vector function into a gradient plus a curl is possible in an infinite number of ways. The present paper is basically concerned with two particular uniquely determined splittings called electric and magnetic. Eigenvector expansions suitable for these spllttings are examined, and the application of these expansions to the calculation of the various terms of the splitting is considered.

In this paper various formulations for the eddy current problem are presented. The formulations are based on solving directly for the magnetic ΓΏeld h, and they di er from each other mainly by how the ΓΏeld on the boundary is treated. ## Abstract There are two methods of using the magnetic vector potential for three‐dimensional eddy current calculations. The first method uses the continuous magnetic vector potential which accompanies a scalar potential and has the advantage that no cutting is necessary for the multiply connected
