## Abstract The partial differential equations of motion for an uncontrolled distributed structure can be transformed into a set of independent modal equations in terms of natural coβordinates. It is common practice to design control forces that recouple the modal equations so that the natural coβo

The statistical properties of a backward stochastic differential equation are derived, assuming the noise is similar to the white noise, but having small correlation times. The relation between the forward and backward systems is examined and given an application to the theory of maximum principle.
It is shown that even in the case of a single input system on R2 it will be rather difficult to find conditions sufficient to guarantee existence of a global linearization and that local conditions alone will definitely not be enough. A class of examples which is fairly typical and it is hoped usefu
