A photochemical "2 + 2 cycloaddition" reaction is proposed to drive the photopolymerization of pristine solid Csa. This mechanism proceeds via the triplet T, state and exhibits a temperature threshold near 250 K, close to the orientational ordering transition of solid Cm Below this threshold, the to

โฆ Synopsis
photopolymerization has been studied in the solvents cyclohexane and C 60 CCl 4 , CH 2 Cl 2 , decalin. Irradiation of solutions under nitrogen รฝow produced photopolymers, the structure C 60 C 60 of which was studied by electronic and FTIR spectroscopy and found to be comparable to that of C 60 photopolymers prepared by solid-state photopolymerization or by piezopolymerization C 60 (polymerization under high pressure). The role of oxygen as photopolymerization inhibitor in cyclohexane and in the formation of oxygenated photopolymers in halogenated solvents has been investigated and is discussed. The eรพ ect of light wavelength on the photopolymerization has been investigated and is discussed. It was found that for k > 265 nm, is photolysed and plays a role in promoting its photo-CCl 4 polymerization, while for k > 300 nm no interference from occurs. CCl 4 1999 Society of Chemical Industry
