A Lennard-Jones and an "exp-6" potential function for neon are investigated for the possible existence of a bound state of a neon molecule, by a method used by de Boer in the case of helium. It is concluded that there exists a bound state with an energy of about 5 Γ 10 -5 atomic units (~ 0.002 eV).

We investigate the existence and properties of solutions to a second-order singular ODE. We base ourselves on the variational approach, which enables the approximation of solutions and gives a measure of a duality gap between primal and dual functional for minimizing sequences.
