β¦ Synopsis
frequency changed, by including the series resistance value (0.8β) in the model, by a maximum of 36 MHz for the 0Β°angle.
For the chosen varactor diodes, the electrical shift in the bandstop frequency of the filter, shown in Figure 3, is 150 to 200 MHz (depending on β°). This shift can be increased by using a series of varactor diodes or varactor diodes of higher tuning range [6]. The filter's performance is expected to be improved further using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) varactors.
4. CONCLUSION
The results have demonstrated wide-bandwidth tunability in the L/S-band frequency range, 94.6%, with the minimum achievable 10-dB bandwidth of 18 MHz at a rotational angle of 72Β°for the two-square-element filter. Shifts in the band-stop frequency due to the mechanical rotation of the microstrip elements are shown to be compensated by electrical tuning of the varactor diodes.
