✦ Synopsis

The OM Group is a leading, vertically integrated international producer and marketer of value-added, metal-based products, specialty chemicals and related materials. The company supplies more than 1700 customers in 50 countries with some 625 product offerings through three segments: precious metal chemistry, base metal chemistry and metal management.

The group's products serve more than 30 major industries, including aerospace, appliance, automotive, ceramics, coatings, electronics, hard metal tools, magnetic tapes, petrochemical, plastics, rechargeable batteries, rubber, stainless steel and other specialty chemicals. OM Group operates manufacturing facilities in the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa with approximately 5200 employees worldwide.

The company's product line includes: automotive emission control catalysts, fuel cell components, electroplating and electronic packaging, battery-grade chemicals, cobalt and nickel salts, electroless nickel, extra-fine cobalt and tungsten powders, metal carboxylates developed from cobalt, zirconium, manganese, calcium, potassium, rare earth, zinc and other metals, and heat-stabilizing plastics additives. OMG fuel cell components include the pMembrain™ membrane-electrode assembly, the elyst™ electrocatalyst, and the protonics™ family of fuel processing catalysts.

OMG's core competencies related to fuel cell products include coating and surface technologies, catalyst development and manufacturing, precious metal chemistry, and platinum group metals (PGM) recycling. In addition, OMG is recognized as a world leader in business operations including supply security, financials and closed-loop management associated with products containing significant quantities of precious metals.

As one of three global leaders in engineered products containing PGMs and with more than 120 years' experience, OMG's products account annually for approximately 20% of the worldwide PGM demand. Proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and the associated fuel processing equipment are dependent on PGMs to achieve high performance with reduced system complexity, and therefore OMG's position and experience with PGMcontaining products distinguishes its role as a fuel cell supplier. Further, the company's role as a metals recycler will be increasingly important as the fuel cell industry grows in volume and precious metals usage.
