Grecia, anno 4.1 d.C. Il senatore Publio Aurelio Stazio giunge a Olympia per presentare i puledri della sua amica Pomponia ai Giochi atletici piΓΉ celebri del mondo. Le gare, perΓ², vengono subito funestate da una serie di lutti: un tifoso accoltellato, un pancraziaste strangolato, un pentatleta sgozzato da un disco tagliente, un velocista trafitto da un giavellotto. Accusato degli ultimi due delitti Γ¨ il discobolo di Corinto, Pirro, che avrebbe potuto procurarsi con facilitΓ gli attrezzi impiegati e che si rende subito irreperibile. Una firma sui delitti, secondo il comitato olimpico che dimostra, molta, forse troppa, fretta di chiudere il caso. Ma Publio Aurelio non Γ¨ convinto e comincia a indagare su altri possibili sospetti. Di fronte al groviglio di morti ammazzati, false piste, doppie e triple veritΓ , il compito per il senatore-detective non si presenta facile, in quell'ambiente cosmopolita che sotto una cornice splendida cela ambizioni sfrenate, enormi interessi pecuniari, efferati misteri.
