À la veille de ses six ans, Olivier fut fauché par une voiture. Il ne survécut pas à l'accident. Il était le frère jumeau de Jérôme Garcin.

Olivier a grandi en lui, en même temps que lui. Une présence fantomatique qui lui a donné très tôt le goût du repli, et un étrange rapport à l'existence. Dans ce récit, Jérôme Garcin remonte le fil de ses souvenirs, met en regard les grands textes littéraires ainsi que les écrits scientifiques consacrés à la gémellité, et retrouve à chaque fois un peu de ce frère perdu.
