At the end of that time, the volume had decreased to 2 9 cc., and 46.27 per cent. of the alcohol and 6.6 per cent. of the iodine initially present had been lost. The iodine concentration in the residual liquid was considerably greater than the iodine concentration in the original tincture.

Wax-like

Coating of the Apple.--H. S. ~/[ARKLEY, STERLING B. HENDRICKS, AND CHARLES E. SANDO (.Tour. Biol. Chem., 1932, xcviii, IO3-IO7) have examined the petroleum ether extract of the wax-like coating of the apple. The bulk of the extract was normal nonacosane (C~9H60) ; a secondary alcohol, Io-nonacosanol, was also present. Ketones were not present in isolable quantities. J. S. H.
