Abstract
Water‐gelatine suspensions containing tabular crystals of silver bromide were obtained using the modified double‐jet method, in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide and an excess of bromide ions, used to increase silver bromide solubility. The size and morphology of crystals obtained depend mostly on the constant concentration of complexing agents in the dispersive solution, during nucleation and crystal growth. The influence of excessive bromide ions concentration and volumetric concentration of dimethyl sulfoxide in the crystallising mixture on the formation of tabular – triangular or hexagonal thin plates – of high aspect ratio has been analysed. During experiment, optimal ranges of dimethyl sulfoxide and excessive bromide ions concentrations for obtaining interesting forms of flat silver bromide crystals were determined.
