The African dwarf goat was known to Liiinaeus as Capra reversa and an extensive description was given by Fitzinger (1859) who called it Hircus reversus. Its original home probably was in Guinea and neighboring countries of the West African Coast from where it spread through Central Africa as f a r as the Eastern Coast of the African continent. Later descriptions can be found in publications by Hilzheimei-( '16), Rlatt ('27)' Staffe ( '38) and Epstein ( '46) ; the latter reporting it from Hejaz.
