โœฆ Synopsis

In nuclear research emulsions exposed at a depth of 57 rowe the momentum of 400 particles was determined by multiple scattering measurements on long tracks. 317 occurred within 30 ยฐ of the vertical, and for this group the momentum spectrum in the range 0 < p < 40 GeV/c was found to be consistent with a law of the form usually assumedN(p)N (p + p0)-r with P0 ~ 12 GeV]c and F = 3. Particular attention was paid to the momentum interval 0 to 1 GeV/c and no evidence of any anomalies found.

The distribution in angle of the tracks was found to be consistent with a law of the form cos" e with n ~ 2.7 ยฑ 0.2. For those tracks with grain density at least 1.2 times the plateau value (slow tracks) the exponent was found to be 3.7 4-0.25. These values correspond to exponents of the cosmic radiation equal to 1.7 4-0.2 for the fast tracks and 2.7 4-0.25 for the slow.
