โฆ Synopsis
Ab&ract-The dislocation subs&ucture produced by elevated temperature fat&e crack propa&m in anneaM Type 316 stainless steel was surveyed by post-test transmission electron microscopy. Both un-irrad&d and neutron kmdiat4 specimens were examined. The results for the u&radiated specimens show that d&&ion cell formation was limited to within approx. 1 mm of the fracture surface. Ibe d&&ion cell size within this region was found to reilect the test temperature and e&&e stress level. No evidence of dislocation cell formation was observed in the neutron irradiated fatigue specimens. It was concluded that dislocation cell formation, if it occurs in neutron irradiated specimens, is con&d to within approx. 0.75 mm of the fracture surface.
