โœฆ Synopsis

9.6060, -6 X I 23.0 9.5412, -6 8 28.0 -9.541211 I agree cordially and entirely with Prof. Kempf's strictures in A. N. 35 I 3, with regard to Y Aquilae. I long since came to the conclusion that it was inserted in the Third Catalogue on insufficient evidence. Had the present contradictory testimony then been available I should certainly have avoided the mistake, which will be remedied in the next edition by the removal of the star. I would therefore ask that 6854 Y Aquilae be regarded as having been expunged from the Catalogue. I take this occasion to confess that I am also somewhat distrustful of the evidence on which 5952 Y Herculis 0.6352, 0.6227, 0.6409, 0.6217, --0.6416, -0.6316,

was inserted, at least to the extent of earnestly desiring that some competent observer would carefully follow the star in order to place the matter, one way or the other, beyond peradventure. It is sincerely hoped that Prof. Miiller and Prof. Kempf will find it convenient to examine critically this case also.

No one can be more gratified than I at every effort to remove such imperfections from the Catalogue, and to purify our knowledge of the subject, which it is so peculiarly difficult to protect froin confusion.
