✦ Synopsis

The following comparisons of magnitudes were made Oct. 21. Japetus fainter by & mag. thaI; Thethys, Nov. 29. Japetus is about 4 mag. brigther than Dione.

Dec. 1. At a distance of 14" Japetus steadily seen and estimated to be of the 14th magnitude. Dec. 5. Japetus fainter than Rhea, and $ mag. brigther than Dione. Japetus belongs to the fainter satellites, and is not brighter, I think, than Enkeladus.

On Oct. 13. in very fine seeing, Mimas was esti-when Japetus was near its conjunctions.

which is near Japetus.

Aoilt 1877.

E.

Stephan . mated to be as bright, and perhaps brighter, than Enkeladus at 9h 15m.

In reducing the observations the value of one revolution of the micrometer screw was assumed to be 9"948. No corrections for refraction have been applied to the preceding observations or to those published in the Astronomische Nachrichten No. 2076. The observations were made by myself. I am again very much indebted to Mr. Marth for his very complete ephemerides of these satellites given in this journal Nos. 2098-2100. 1876. Dec, 26. A.
