β¦ Synopsis
The lowest Rydberg transition of ethylene was experimentally observed in a krypton matrix. These results combined with previous data on benzene and acetylene provide conclusive evidence that molecular Rydberg states are amenable to experimental observation in a dense medium.

Electronic excitations of XeMAr,%-clusters are studied using fluorescence excitation spectroscopy in the energy range of the electronic excitations of pure Xe. The composition of the clusters is changed between XeAr, and pure Xe,M by varying the concentration of Xe gas in a coexpansion between 0.01%
Total quenching of the low-Rydberg state of Na in collision with thermal Ne and Ar was investigated, for the first time, employing a molecular approach in the impact parameter formalism. A large basis set of Slater-type orbitals was used to calculate the molecular structure of the transient quasimol
