β¦ Synopsis
We report the observation of the C-H stretch modes of monolayers of methanol and pentadecanoic acid adsorbed on glass and water using sum-frequency generation. This is a new surface spectroscopic probe, akin to second-harmonic generation for its surface specificity, but potentially more useful for its molecular selectivity.
