โœฆ Synopsis

Raman spectra of (S i / G e_{x} S i_{1-x}) superlattices have been measured, probing close to the mini Brillouin zone edge. The data reveal sharp lines appearing between those of folded phonon doublets. These lines have been interpreted with the aid of a computational method based on the photoelastic theory for low frequency Raman scattering by longitudinal acoustic phonons in finite size superlattices.

Raman spectra of Ge/Ge x Si 1-x superlattices were measured, probing close to the mini-Brillouin zone edge. The data reveal peculiar features in the low-wavenumber region of the spectra. These features are observed as dips superimposed on broad bands, the latter being related to the scattering of pu
