โฆ Synopsis
Experimental observation of the wave generated by the head-on collision of two vortex rings has been made using the same method as in previous work [1], but with improved test facilities. Presented here are the average wave profiles observed in the far field, the Fourier decomposition, a perspective diagram of the wave profile and scaling law of the wave pressure with respect to the vortex speed. The data again suggests the existence of an isotropic monopolar component in addition to the quadrupolar component known in the inviscid theory.

Sound generation due to the interaction between two inviscid coaxial vortex rings moving along a common axis in the same direction is investigated numerically by using the method of contour dynamics and the far field equations. The results show the occurrence of the slip-through process, incomplete
