✦ Synopsis

The interface area between the bubble and emulsion phases in a fl uidized catalyst bed is one of the important parameters used to analyze and design the fl uidized bed reactor. We used a fast-scanning X-ray CT system to observe the bubble shape and structure. We then obtained the transient 2-dimensional cross sectional gas-phase distribution in a fl uidized catalyst bed. Using image-processing techniques, pseudo 3dimensional images of the bubbles were reconstructed. The bubble structure was studied based on the 3-dimensional images and the previously obtained results in a 2-dimensional fl uidized bed. It was found that the bubble shape was not spherical but complicated, and that the bubbles ascending in a fl uidized catalyst bed consisted of some smaller bubbles.

## Abstract An investigation was carried out in a circulating fluidized bed to explore if rice husk could be fluidized without mixing it with any foreign solids. Experimental results indicate that bed cross‐section has an important influence on the fluidization characteristics of rice husk. Larger

However, the bubbling up vapor flows just through the downcomer bottom-orifices. The vapor occupies the part the of orifice area, so the orifice area for liquid descending is reduced and the downcomer liquid height increases which causes a premature downcomer flood as well. Moreover, the orifice are

## Abstract Recent advances in dense, multiphase, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) have allowed accurate simulation of the gas and particle motion in bubbling and circulating fluidized beds. Since fluidized‐bed reactors are used for many chemical processes, a simulation must also be able to accur
