We report the first observation of the Liz diffuse band in the region of 420 nm which is the analog of the diffuse bands in other alkali diier spectra, for example. at 436.5 and 575 nm for the sodium and potassium cases, respectively\_ The observed diffuse band appears to arise from the 2 311g-l 'Xi
