The report describes an integration of the computeroriented design process and the development of an intelligent user support in structural analysis. An object oriented prototype program for support structure design has been compiled in which the system definition, the mesh generation, the numerical analysis and the visualization of the results are based on a common uniform data structure. For analysis of 2D-structural design, including a discussion on error control, a procedure for symmetrically coupled finite element and boundary element techniques is given. Using a prototype implementation of the intelligent and integrated design environment, object-oriented models and for tunnel design are presented. (WEN). (Copyright (c) 1996 by FIZ.
