✦ Synopsis

A method of radiograph review was tested to see whether experienced readers could agree on the ranking of chest films to evaluate the course of advanced bronchogenic cancer under treatment. There was goad agreement among reviewers, both with respect to ability to duplicate their own earlier efforts, and to produce a consensus ranking independently among themselves. The readers' rankingdifficulty ratings are related to agreement and to radiological evaluation. On the basis of these findings, we conclude that radiological review of chest films of patients with nonmeasurable disease can be used in future lung studies for evaluation of patient response to experimental treatment. With this method it may be possible to use as few as one to 3 film readers. These recommendations apply only when specific action has been taken to help make the readings unbiased.
