✦ Synopsis

Professor Jack Linnett collapsed and died suddenly in London on November 7, 1975 of a heart attack. He was 62. He will be remembered with affection and respect by combustion scientists in many countries for his warmth and friendliness no less than for his remarkably diverse contributions to chemistry. At the time of his death he was Professor of Physical Chemistry and Master of Sidney Sussex College in the University of Cambridge. He had recently (1971-3) served as President of the Faraday Division of the Chemical Society. He had just ceased to be Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and in April 1976 he would have become President of the Chemical Society.
