Bruce Stone was a founding editor of IUBMB Life and very active in its support. Indeed, at the time of his death he was writing a contribution for our series entitled ''My Favorite Enzyme.'' It was incomplete but we know that he wanted to write about the enzymic synthesis of 1,3-, 1,4-beta-glucans.
The following obituary is abstracted from a longer version written by his colleague Nick Hoogenraad, whom we thank for permission to excerpt this account, and Rebecca Lew, editor of the Australian Biochemist, in which the full account will be published.
