✦ Synopsis

group (those with complete remission CR or partial remission PR) and a significant positive correlation was found in the nonresponders group (those with stable disease [SD] or progressive Disease [PD]) (P < 0.001). Correlation of CD38 with the initial response was significant (P = 0.034) when using % expression. We applied the ROC curve for our results. Using a cut off 7.4 for the Mean Fluorescence Intensity (MFI) of CD38, the sensitivity was 58% and specificity 90%. A significant negative correlation was found between CD38 MFI with the initial response (P = 0.006). Out of nine positive CD38 3/9 (33.3%) responded (CR or PR) while, 6/9 (66.7%) showed no response (SD or PD). A significant correlation was found between ZAP-70% positivity and serum level of LDH and b 2 -microglobuline (b 2 M) (P = 0.005, 0.007 respectively) while CD38% positivity showed a significant relations with (b 2 M) only (P < 0.005). A positive significant correlation was found between ZAP-70% expression and P53% expression (X 2 = 9.8, P = 0.002) in 31 CLL patients. No significant correlation was found between ZAP-70 and Bcl2 expressions. CD38 showed a non-significant correlation with neither P53 nor Bcl2. A significant negative correlation was found between MFI of CD38 Rai staging at diagnosis (P = 0.019). No significant correlation was found between ZAP-70 expression and staging. By using the combined expressions of both markers, the correlation of their % expression was significant when correlated with the initial response (P < 0.001), Diffuse BMB pattern (P = 0.015), P53 (P < 0.05) while a non significant correlation was found between LDH, b 2 M, and Bcl2. A significant negative correlation was found between overall survival (O.S) and ZAP-70 expression as well as the combined expression of both ZAP-70 and CD38 (P = 0.029 and 0.0312) respectively. A significant negative correlation was found between time to disease progression (TDP) and ZAP-70 expression as well as the combined expression of both ZAP-70 and CD38 (P = 0.025 and <0.001) respectively. Conclusion: Combined analysis of CD38% and ZAP-70% could predict initial response, BMB infiltration pattern P53 expression as well as O.S and TDP. ZAP-70% expression correlate with LDH b 2 M, and Bcl2. CD38% expression correlate with RAi staging.
