✦ Synopsis
observed regarding RANTES and IL-8, but UF PCs contained lower amounts of RANTES compared to F PCs; though the difference was significant, while IL-8 showed marked reduction in F PCs. Conclusion: It could be concluded that, despite a significant reduction in levels of WBC-derived cytokine, prestorage filtration had neither preventing effect on the accumulation of platelet derived cytokines (b-TG, PF-4 and RANTES) nor adverse effect on platelet activation. Platelet derived chemokines would be a key of understanding non-haemolytic transfusion reactions NHTRs. The time factor is an additional risk factor for occurrence of platelet storage lesion (PSL).
