✦ Synopsis

In Part I the heat balance integral method (HBIM) is used to solve one-dimensional Stefan problems. In particular, the method is applied to one-phase melting=solidiÿcation problems and both cylindrical and spherical geometries are considered. In Part II a special starting procedure is used for small time. The systems of nonlinear algebraic equations for the coe cients in the small time series are derived for both cylindrical and spherical geometries. Numerical results are obtained for these coe cients by increasing the number of subdivisions of the region demonstrating good convergence.
