Abstract
Here the numerical simulation of some plane LamΓ© problem with a rectilinear crack under nonβpenetration condition is presented. The corresponding solids are assumed to be isotropic and homogeneous as well as bonded. The nonβlinear crack problem is formulated as a variational inequality. We use penalty iteration and the finiteβelement method to calculate numerically its approximate solution. Applying analytic formulas obtained from shape sensitivity analysis, we calculate then energetic and stress characteristics of the solution, and describe the quasistatic propagation of the crack under linear loading. The results are presented in comparison with the classical, linear crack problem, when interpenetration between the crack faces may occur. Copyright Β© 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

## Abstract We study the following initial and boundary value problem: equation image In section 1, with u~0~ in L^2^(Ξ©), __f__ continuous such that __f__(u) + Ο΅ nonβdecreasing for Ο΅ positive, we prove the existence of a unique solution on (0,__T__), for each __T__ > 0. In section 2 it is proved
## Abstract In this paper, the phase change moving interface problem along the axial direction of the cylinder in the lead alloys containing tin is simulated by the axisymmetric dual reciprocity boundary element method (ADRBEM) with augmented items. The numerical method is verified by comparing wit
Many optimization problems in engineering require coupling a mathematical programming process to a numerical simulation. When the latter is non-linear, the resulting computer time may become una ordably large because three sequential procedures are nested: the outer loop is associated to the optimiz
A characteristic "nite element (CFE) algorithm for modelling contaminant transport problems coupled with non-linear competitive adsorption is presented. An alternative algorithm, termed as the transport-equilibrium Petrov}Galerkin (TEPG) methods in this paper, is also presented for comparison. Throu
