✦ Synopsis

This is probably the last but one in a series of volumes which aims to provide a comprehensive treatment of the geology of the oceans. The series has broken with tradition in treating regional geology ocean by ocean rather than by country, continent, or craton. It is a treatment that could not be attempted satisfactorily before the upsurge in marine geology of the post-I950s, and there is no denying that it works successfully.
