✦ Synopsis
A numerical method for analysing an axisymmetric injection moulding process is presented. A consistent approximation to pressure is applied for a penalty function formulation of Galerkin's finite element method. To analyse the moving free surface and visualize the transient flow pattern, marker particles are introduced. An axisymmetric abrupt cavity, which is filled with a generalized Newtonian fluid, is solved to verify the scheme. As a practical example problem, the transient flow through moulds of a memory disc is analysed.
