β¦ Synopsis
In the paper a certain algorithm of solidification process numerical modelling is presented. In particular, the iron casting solidifying in typical moulding sand is considered. Proposed numerical model allows to take into account the specific features of cast iron solidification (the process proceeds partially in an interval of temperature and partially in a constant temperature). The system casting-mold environment is analyzed and the adequate numerical algorithm constitutes a composition of the Finite Element Method (casting) and 2nd scheme of the Boundary Element Method (mold). The practical aims of worked out numerical model are connected with the chill tendency estimation *) . *) This research work has been supported by KBN (Gram No 3 P404 038 07) conducted by prof B.Mochnacki Elsevier Science S.A.

AbstractΓIt is well known that eutectic and slightly hypereutectic cast iron may present austenite dendrites which should appear only in hypoeutectic alloys according to the phase diagram. Such an experimental fact was dicult to explain within the framework of the currently available quantitative mo
Two solidification processes are analysed, namely a molten layer on a cold substrate and a basin with a cold bottom. The theoretical analysis has shown that the control parameters for solidification are the temperature gradient in the molten layer or the latent heat of the solidification, the temper
