✦ Synopsis

Measurements are reported for spin asymmetries in inclusive and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering on on polarised 3He and hydrogen targets. The data were collected by the HERMES experiment at HERA/DESY and cover a kinematic range of 0.023 -0.6 in x. The extraction of polarised quark distributions is described and preliminary results are presented. Several options for future measurements addressing the spin structure of the nucleon at DESY are mentioned.

We present the final results of the spin asymmetries A1 and the spin structure functions g1 of the proton and the deuteron from the SMC. In the region I < 0.02 we use a new method for the determination of Al. The usual method employs inclusive scattering events and includes a large radiative backgro
