The effect of an addition of a small amount of solute on the nucleation of three low melting point elements, lead, tin and bismuth has been investigated by the conventional droplet technique on droplets of 350 p dia. It was discovered that alloying with small amounts of Te caused a marked reduction in the supercooling for the nucleation of all three elements. This was especially true in the Bi-Te system where the behavior of these alloys may be explained by the formation of the bismuth telluride phase followed by the subsequent nucleation of bismuth catalyzed by the telluride.

Les auteurs ont trouve que la formation dun alliage avec de faibles quantites de Te provoque une diminution marquee de la surfusion pour la germination des trois autres elements. Ceci est sp&zialement marque dans le systema Bi-Te pour lequel le comportement de ces alliages peut etre explique par la formation de la phase de tellurure de bismuth avec une germination consecutive de bismuth catalysee par le tellurure. KEIMBILDUNGSEXPERIMENTE AN EINIGEN LEGIERUNGEN MIT NIEDRIGEN EUTEKISCHEN TEMPERATUREN Der EinfluD kleiner Fremdstoffzusiitze auf die Keimbildung in den drei niedrigschmelzenden Elementen Blei, Zinn und Wismut wurde mit der konventionellen Tropfchentechnik (Tropfendurchmesser 360 11) untersucht. Dabei wurde gefunden, da13 Zulegieren kleiner Mengen Te eine betriichtliche Verminderung der zur Keimbildung aller drei Elemente erforderlichen Unterkiihlung verursacht. Die8 gilt besonders fur drts Bi-Te-System; da8 Verhalten dieser Legierungen kann durch die Bildung der Wismuttelluridphase und die darauffolgende, durch das Tellurid katslysierte Keimbildung erkliirt werden.
