✦ Synopsis

The vibrotational spectrum of (\mathrm{ICl}) in the (A^{3} \Pi_{1} \leftarrow X^{\prime} \Sigma^{+})system was measured in the region from 12300 to (12600 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}) using a GaAs semiconductor laser. The spectroscopic constants describing the (v=2^{\prime} \leftarrow 4^{\prime \prime}, 3^{\prime} \leftarrow 5^{\prime \prime}), and (4^{\prime} \leftarrow 5^{\prime \prime}) progressions were determined. Splittings caused by the hyperfine coupling effect were observed in the (P) - and (R)-branch lines. The first-order perturbation of the nuclear quadrupole coupling effect was taken into consideration, and the coupling constants (e q_{1} Q) and (\frac{1}{2} e q_{2} Q) in the (A) state were determined to be (-0.027 \pm 0.027) and (-0.071 \pm 0.015 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}), respectively, by using a high (J) approximation.
