✦ Synopsis
We measured 27A1, 55Mn, and liB nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and the spin-spin relaxation time T 2 of quasicrystalline A1-Pd-Mn-B alloys with a new strong magnetism. The zero field spectra observed around 35 MHz and 220 MHz at 4.2 K indicate that there exist Mn and B atoms with an internal magnetic field. Further, Al, Mn and B atoms with no internal magnetic field coexist in these quasicrystals. NMR spectra and the spin-spin relaxation time T 2 of crystalline MnB were also measured for comparison. It is concluded that the icosahedral phase of this alloy system consists of a heterogeneous distribution of coexisting ferromagnetic and paramagnetic Mn atoms.
