Nitration of 1-methylpyrene yields a mixture of isomers which have been M c u l t to resolve by chromatography. By using the addition of substituent effects, the products have been identified by 'HNMR as 3-, 6and &nitro derivatives of 1-methylpyrene in the proportions 0.65:l:l.
