✦ Synopsis


Main addition in this evaluation is extensive new data in the second potential well of 2 4 0 Pu from (Ξ± ,2nΞ³ ) and (d, pF) studies. Fission isomers are known in 2 4 0 Pu, 2 4 0 Am and 2 4 0 Cm. While several (SD) band structures in the s e c o n d p o t e n t i a l w e l l a r e k n o w n i n 2 4 0 P u , o n l y t h e l i f e t i m e s o f s u c h i s o m e r s a r e k n o w n f o r t h e o t h e r t w o nuclides.

The data sets for 244 Pu Ξ± decay to 240 U; 244 Cm Ξ± decay to 240 Pu and 244 Cf Ξ± decay to 240 Cm have been adapted from evaluations by Y. A. Akovali (1998Ak04).

Most detailed data are available only for 2 4 0 Pu. For other nuclides spectroscopic data are generally scarce in the l i t e r a t u r e ; e s p e c i a l l y f o r t h e f o l l o w i n g r a d i o a c t i v e d e c a y s : T h e Ξ΅ d e c a y s o f 2 4 0 C f , 2 4 0 B k a n d 2 4 0 C m ; multipolarities of Ξ³ transitions in 2 4 0 Np from 2 4 0 U Ξ² -decay; Ξ³ transitions from 2 4 4 Cf Ξ± decay and %Ξ΅ branch of 2 4 4 C f d e c a y ; s p i n s a n d p a r i t i e s o f e x c i t e d s t a t e s i n 2 4 0 U a n d m u l t i p o l a r i t i e s o f a s s o c i a t e d Ξ³ t r a n s i t i o n s i n 240 U.

The statistical analysis of Ξ³ -ray data and deduced level schemes is carried out through computer codes available at (www.nndc.bnl.gov) NNDC, Brookhaven National Laboratory, U.S.A. A general 3% uncertainty is assumed in quoted theoretical internal conversion coefficients taken mainly from 1968Ha53.
