✦ Synopsis
Abstract
In the present work we report a novel phenomenon and mechanism of tubular oxide structure formation. Microtubes of titanium oxide were obtained by deposition of solvent‐free metal butoxide polymer layer on glass substrate and following exposure to humid atmosphere. Dissolving the formed layered system in hexane led to the formation of microtubular oxide structures. The obtained tubes were characterized by SEM and optical microscopy, and a rolled‐up nanosheet morphology was shown. Rolling of oxide gel sheet is proposed as the formation mechanism for this novel microtubular material. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
